{February 8, 2015}   My Life Married to a House

IMG_2812

I’m staring at
(Yet another)
Blank page.
Wishing for something
(Anything)
Interesting to say.
But the truth is,
My life is dull.
Get up, wash clothes,
Wash me, feed animals,
Feed children,
Wash dishes,
Straighten house.
Repeat every 24 hours.
It doesn’t make for very
Interesting reading.
Bronte had it down–
Her life was completely
Devoid of excitement.
She never left home,
(Or very rarely)
But she had a head
Full of stories
Exciting and romantic.
Sylvia Plath had an
Exciting life
And she decided to
Stick her head in an oven.
(If she had seen MY oven,
I’ll bet she would have
Found another way.)
I like to fancy
Myself a punk.
But the truth is
I’m not even that, anymore.
I am a
Has been punk,
Has been musician.
(And never a very good one,
Truth be know
n.)
And now I’m just a mom.
A housewife.
That word makes me cringe.
I devote my free time
To things I care about.
My kids, animals,
Writing when I can.
I miss music,
Bang on drums when
No one is at home.
(Which is almost never.)
But really,
What does that make me?
All I can come up with is

Boring.

It makes me boring.
And that makes me sad.

You’re nowhere close to boring, I promise! ❤

I love this one. I understand how you feel too. I’ve been struggling a lot lately with similar feelings and similar sadness. I won’t go into the struggles here, no need to really. You’ve described it way better than I would have anyway (my version involves a lot of cussing, stomping and whining of the phrase “it’s just not fair!”), but that is why YOU are the writer not me 🙂
Reading this makes me miss you so much more. It makes me sad that we can’t just walk over to each other’s house and sit together while we drink tea and talk “girl talk” about things like this. Or that we can’t close ourselves up in your music room, you banging on the drums and me wailing to the top of my lungs (I’ve ALWAYS wanted to be Joan Jett) until we have no more banging and wailing to give. Sigh. I never seem to live near those that I can relate to the most.

Love you my friend. OXOX

I like to stomp and cuss. I also buy cheap dishes at garage sales, and SMASH THEM into a box. It’s cathartic.

It was a little warmer here than it has been last week (around 60), and I opened the windows and cranked up Metallica and started cleaning the house. It reminded me of when we lived in WestPort and we would have our biweekly clean up sessions. Was sad and happy at the same time.

Remember the time I poured the WOODEN potpourri chips into the garbage disposal, and killed it? You have to admit, it DID smell better, though. 🙂

Miss you bunches!

P.s. – all of your replies have been going into my spam folder. Trying to fix that now. XOXOXO

I am on extended leave until April, and suddenly thinking the office is not so bad, the walls of the house are closing in on me. Can totally relate to your post 🙂

Leave is good. 🙂

I need to find a way to utilize my time better. I have been “off work” for almost 18 years now. No longer have any real marketable skills. :/

Unless cooking is marketable. :). I have a friend who cooks supper for three different families, delivers to their houses. It’s actually cheaper than eating out. Wonder if I should do something like that?

I want to play my drums more (not that I’m in a band, or anything, just want to get better) but my hubby works a phone job (he’s an exec with home office) here, and I doubt his coworkers would understand. (Grin)

I’m sure cooking can be marketable. Everyone needs to eat, right? I was using the time to decide if I want to go back, and I probably will for the reasons you’ve described. My kids need me in the afternoons though that’s the only problem, afterschool care wasn’t really focusing on their homework. All the best, at least we have our blogs to alleviate some of the frustrations! Xx
